About the Artist

Accountant by day, artist by night (and weekends)

Alema first experienced making glass in 2003, and was instantly hooked—a good thing, because as a bookkeeper, “creative accounting” is frowned upon, and she needed a creative outlet. Throwing all bookkeeping sensibilities to the wind, she purchased a kiln and squeezed it into her tiny basement.

She learned a lot that first year. Broken glass was common, and her boyfriend’s house had examples of more than a few earlier Frankenstein creations. Over time, however, Alema’s glass creations have evolved into, dare we say, classy pieces, ranging from whimsical to elegant to organic. Visit her web site, www.classyglassbyalema.com to look at some of her latest creations.

Alema McCrea is a resident of Portland, Oregon, and when she isn’t balancing somebody’s books or firing up the kiln, she’s buried under her three cats, Pumpkin, Halfpint, and Xena. Her boyfriend Frank sometimes gets to see her, too.
